News For and About the Craftspeople and Retailers of the Adirondack North Country Region

"The Object as Poet
I have been a spellbound traveler in the world of objects, having been magnetized into their orbit and mystified by their aura - the marvel of shapes and the materials of those shapes, how the shapes come together, the tensions, the colors, their uses present and past, their isolation, their embrace, their all-knowing presence, their space and vitality ... Craftsmakers and artists ... are poets transcending, reaching inside and beyond the physical nature of the object. At peak, at that moment of rightness, there is transfiguration, an exchange of presence between maker and object."
- Rose Slivka, 1919-2004. Excerpt from essay for Renwick Gallery of the National Collection of Fine Arts 1977 exhibit catalog. American Craft, February/March 2005, p. 20.
