New regional niche wholesale show in Kingston, NY. Catskill Craft Market, March 19 and 20, 2003, TechCity, Kingston, NY. So far 23 vendors have signed up, another 5 that I know of - looking for at least 50. I'm coordinating this show for the Catskill Mountain Crafts Collective (CMCC). I will keep you posted. For Vendors - New Buyer Day promotions. Purchasing 700 names and addresses from infousa.com of shops in VT, CT, and Mass. within 50 miles of Saratoga Springs. Also looking at 2000 names of giftshops in CT, NY, VT and MA from Giftware News subscribers. Giftware News is a national retailers magazine with the most subscribers, 30,000. Merchant credit card service - One craftswoman from Malone has gone with Merchants Direct through her local bank. One time setup fee of $175 - swipe machine only - has to call in. $15/month fee with (I didn't ask)% charge for each transaction. On months with no business she can call ahead to cancel fee for month.

Could we do it here? In the Eastern Townships in Canada just north of Malone, the regional economic development agency promotes two 3 day grand tours, one in May and one in Sept., of 30 food and drink sites. Each site is twinned with another business - craft, art, food, drink. Now in their 3rd year, they generate 30,000 visitors per 3 day tour and have resulted in an average of 15% increase in gross income for each site participant.

New shop in Wilmington. The Corner Stone opened on November 29. The seven artisans and craftspeople are Meg Stone - silk screened notecards, Susan Cassevaugh - original oils and watercolors and prints, Rarilee Conway - Adirondack style accessories such as privacy screens, wall mirrors, etc., Marika Corvelli - country folk art, Janice Miller-Hoffman - stained glass, Jessica Winona Mulvey - porcupine quill jewelry and balsa, cedar and lavender products, Marjorie Swift - the creator of the original "Bug Bonnet." Others will be also featured; Jeri Wright, photographer, and Arto Monaco who designed and built the building in 1948.

A move and expansion. The Candy Man moved from Jay to Wilmington this past summer into a larger building (next to the Corner Stone). It is now possible to watch the famous candy being made, nearly from start to finish. Candy Man

Tom Phillips, rustic furniture maker from Barlett Carry, between Tupper Lake and Saranac Lake on Rte. 3, was awarded the Traditional Arts in Upstate New York's (TAUNY) North Country Heritage Award in September. He also demonstrated his craft on the Home and Garden Network segment filmed at the Great Camp Sagamore in Raquette Lake, where he and his wife, Judy, have held woodworking and basketweaving classes each summer for the last 10 years.
