Inaugural Adirondack Sustainable Festival
To kick off the Sustainable Adirondack Festival, we have agreed to make this a part of the 18th Annual Adirondack Juried Craftfest that is expected to showcase approximately 30 high quality artisans including woodworking, photography, painting, pottery and weaving. This show has attracted up to nearly 2000 attendees and represents we believe a quintessential example of sustainable Adirondack practices as well as a captive audience interested in everything Adirondack.
As part of our continued development as an eco-conscious resort, Hohmeyer’s Lake Clear Lodge is planning an "Adirondack Sustainable Festival" to be held July 14 & 15, 2007. As an interested voice in the sustainable future of the Adirondacks, we would welcome your participation.
The Adirondack Sustainable Festival is celebration of everything Adirondack by show casing what we can do from an economic, natural and human perspective: best practices to sustain our environment, economy and our own personal health. It is our goal to exhibit the many initiatives taking place to foster a sustainable Adirondack future and to generate a greater awareness of what we can do individually as stewards of our land, residents of the Adirondacks, governor of our own health and champion of our children’s future.
To showcase initiatives on creating an Adirondack sustainable future, we are forming partnerships with Adirondack Harvest and the Adirondack Chapter of the Weston Price Foundation to not only exhibit local food products but best practices in utilizing these foods to generate healthier eating. We are hoping that Paul Smiths College, Cornell Cooperative Extension and the Adirondack North Country Association will display the latest initiatives in sustainable forestry and agricultural practices as well as eco-tourism. Our own Lake Clear Lodge is working on a partnership with Triangle Electric on solar energy and there will be other exhibits on renewable energy including biodiesel. The Natural History Museum and the Visitor Interpretive Center will also be invited to have displays on hand.
It is our goal to broaden this representation on initiatives on Adirondack sustainability and that is why we are contacting you. We would welcome your participation in the inaugural Sustainable Adirondack Festival of what we hope will eventually become a weeklong celebration (starting next year). If you are interested in learning more, you need only to simply contact us at adkestival@gmail.com or (518) 891-1489.
We hope you will join us in this celebration and creating a greater awareness of efforts to sustain our Adirondack future.
Sincerely,
Cathy & Ernest Hohmeyer
