Buyer Days Exhibitor Bear-Man is Finalist in Specialty Foods 35th Annual Product Awards Competition
Congratulations to Bear-Man Specialty Foods!
In early May in the equivalent of the Academy Awards in the specialty food industry, Bear-Man Growlin' Grizzly Barbecue/Dipping Sauce placed as a finalist in the Outstanding Cooking Sauce or Flavor Enhancer Category.
Judging took place at the The National Association for the Specialty Food Trade offices in New York City, where eight specialty food retailers, supermarket buyers, natural food merchants, chefs and culinary educators analyzed and tasted nearly 2,900 specialty food items from 1,466 total entries. Becoming a finalist at the 35th Annual Product Awards Competition in the beginning of Bear-Man's second year of business is a stunning achievement.

Mohawk Valley Living and the Mohawk Valley Center of the Arts have partnered to make and post short film clips of Mohawk Valley artists and cultural activities. Visit http://www.youtube.com/mvliving to see two to ten minute clips of potter Art Baird, painter/musician Oscar Stivala, mosaic artist Shelley Turner, wood carver Harold Kaltenbach and others.

Congratulations to New Business Partnership!
Most of the members; The Basket Lady, The Silver Bench, Harmony All Natural Soaps and Oils, Stonehouse Silversmiths, The Wild Inside, Heirlooms, Gallery 812, Fourth Coast Beeswax, Garden Thyme Herbs and Soft Maple Designs of the Adirondack Artisans Guild live on or near the Tug Hill Plateau. Linda Vincent, owner of Shops at 25 West at Canal Place in Little Falls, approached them about renting a permanent booth space on the second floor where many other artisans and craft supply businesses are already established. They agreed that it was a worthwhile marketing opportunity and signed on.

38,000 are being mailed across the region from Oswego to Saratoga counties up to the Canadian border to 1900 lodgings, chambers of commerce and to the participants early next week. Printable versions of Arts, Crafts and Foods Along the Scenic Byways of the Adirondack North Country are accessible online at AdkNCcrafts.com. The online regional map highlights the Scenic Byways and links to descriptions of each of the participants. Each description includes location, hours, contact information and most include a photo and some text describing the setting as well as the media and artist.

ABC's Reality Show Extreme Makeover: Home Edition Shops in Region
Congratulations to Adirondack Craft Center and Bald Mountain Rustics!
In late March, show designer Tracy Hutson got a feel for Adirondack style decorating and shopped at Adirondack Craft Center in Lake Placid and at Bald Mountain Rustics in late March for some of the furnishings for the new house cast and crew of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition were in the process of building for Debbie Oatman of Colonie. Show aired in late April.
Shops for Sale, Closing and Opening
Congratulations to Designers Studio, Dumont’s and The Rustic Redneck!
Designers Studio of Saratoga Springs, one of 100 in the United States to receive the Niche Award for Best Retailer of 2006, is for sale by the original owners who started the business in 1983. Dumont’s Furniture and Gifts of Malone, also with the original owners, is closing. They opened in 1989. Allen Dupree opened The Rustic Redneck at 112 Lake Street, Ogdensburg, this spring. He is selling his rustic furniture and chain carved bears as well as works by other artisans of the region.
