May 30 - TV Documentary - Craft in America
Craft in America, a Journey to the Origins, Artists and Techniques of American craft, is a three-part landmark PBS series airing nationwide on Wednesday, May 30 from 8-11pm. It takes a thematic approach organized around Memory, Landscape and Community. Each program builds upon a series of individual profiles. The series, co-produced by Craft in America, Inc. and the Independent Television Service (ITVS), is available as a DVD. 1.800.752.9727. $24.99.
In conjunction with the 3 part series, the exhibit Craft in America: Expanding Traditions is touring seven cities. It opened at the Arkansas Arts Center, Little Rock (April 13-June 24), and will travel to the Museum of Contemporary Craft, Portland, Oregon (July 22-September 23) and other venues into 2009. An illustrated book, Craft in America: Celebrating Two Centuries of Artists and Objects, prologue by former President Jimmy Carter, will be published by Clarkson-Potter in the fall of 2007.
