Welcome to the
Adirondack North Country Scenic Byways

We have developed this guide/website to introduce you to the exceptional quality of local arts, crafts, and specialty foods found in New York State's most northern region-and most importantly to the people who create them. The region's boundaries stretch from Lake Ontario to Lake Champlain, and from the Canadian border to the Mohawk River Valley. It includes the Tug Hill Plateau and the Adirondack Park. Within those boundaries are several significant, distinctive natural landscapes, which often provide artisans with raw materials and inspiration.

About Scenic Byways - Roads with Stories to Tell

The National Scenic Byway Program encourages travelers - both visitors and residents - to leave interstate highways and use roadways where they can connect with history, landscapes, and culture.

Scenic Byways are specific, planned touring routes that give access to small communities that provide genuine "American" experiences. Each Scenic Byway is organized around at least one theme that embodies its intrinsic qualities, and related resources located along the route.

These resources include landmarks, buildings, mountains, vistas, attractions, parks, and historical sites-anything of interest or value that is visible from, adjacent to, accessed by, or associated with the road.

Adirondack North Country Association (ANCA)...

is a non-profit private corporation that strengthens the economy and quality of life in the 14 counties of northern New York through informed, open debate and advocacy on economic issues critical to the region and through regionwide action on projects in agriculture, business and community development, forestry, human services, the arts and tourism.

Partial funding for this project was provided to the Adirondack North Country Association from the NYSDOTís Scenic Byway Program through the Federal Highway Administration and the Transportation Equity Act for the 21st Century.
